Abstract

1436309 Adhesive layer for metallizing plastics AKADEMIE DER WISSENSCHAFTEN DER DDR 24 Oct 1974 [25 Oct 1973 19 July 1974] 46010/74 Heading C7F A thermoplastic or thermostable polymeric sheet, film, strip or profile bears an adhesive poromeric layer, which in turn has a metallic covering; the term "poromeric" is explained in the Specification. The polymer, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, polymethacrylate, polyurethane, polyamide, polyolefin, polycarbonate or polyquinoxalin, is coated with a solution, e.g. in DMF or DMF/acetone, or a suspension, e.g. in DMF and halogenated hydrocarbon, of a polymer which can be coagulated in a moist atmosphere, e.g. polyurethane, polyethylene terephthalate, or polyvinyl formal, and subsequently the layer is coagulated at atmospheric pressure and relative. humidity >40%. This may be followed by treatment with water at <50‹C, followed by drying at >50‹C. The poromeric adhesive layer is the metallized, e.g. with SnCl 2 /PdCl 2 , electroless Cu, and electrolytic Cu; coating may also be by vacuum deposition and other coating metals men- tioned are Zn, Al, Cr, Ni, Co, Ag and Au.
