Abstract
1435940 Continuous casting SCHLOEMANN AG 29 May 1973 [29 May 1972] 25611/73 Heading B3F [Also in Division B8] Linear electromagnetic fields which travel in the direction of the casting path parallel to and at opposite sides of a strand guide means 2, 3 are generated to cause such fields to interact with secondary, induced fields to produce forces which act upon the strand (the dummy bar 7 or 31, 32 together with the cast strand or the cast strand alone) and tend to move the strand. In Fig. 1, the strand or the short dummy bar 7 forms the secondary of a linear motor, and windings 4 which are arranged down the side of the strand path act as the primary. The latter are cooled by water spray and are adjustable for spacing from the strand. To hold the dummy bar head 5 in the mould 1, members 6 in the region of a guiding plate arrangement 2 adjacent the mould can be displaced towards the bar 7. In Fig. 3, the windings 34 forming the primary are secured to the sides of a short dummy bar 31 which has a head 32 for closing a mould 33 and, as the secondary, rails 37, 38 are mounted in the guide means for spatial adjustment with regard to the primary. If conveying the dummy bar up into the mould, forces are generated acting oppositely to the direction of strand withdrawal. Braking may be applied in the same manner.
