Steering-gear; deflectable axle-ends, swivelling wheel-hubs, and the like, and intermediate connexions therefor.-A motor tractor which is fitted with two sets of ploughs for one way ploughing is supported on the one side by two driving and steering wheels 2, and on the other by a vertically-adjustable wheel 29 which may be free to swivel as a castor wheel or may be set to travel in a desired plane. The wheels 2 are driven from the motor 4 through a reverse gear, which is coupled to an horizontal shaft 5 provided at each end with a worm 37. These worms drive vertical shafts 8 carrying bevel gears engaging similar gears on the wheels 2. The wheels 2 are mounted on short axles secured to brackets pivoted on the shafts 8 and provided with laterally extending arms connected by links 10, 11 to the steering arms 12, 13, Fig. 5. These arms are provided with toothed quadrants 16, 17 meshing with a worm 18 on a steering pillar 19 supported in bearings in a swivelling frame 23 mounted on a central pivot. By moving the steering-pillar bodily about this pivot, the quadrants 16, 17 are so operated as to cause the wheels 2 to turn in the same direction, and, by turning the handwheel 20 of the pillar, the wheels are swung in reverse directions. For ploughing, the wheels are so turned that the rear wheel runs in the furrow the machine has first cut, and the front wheel runs in the furrow made on the previous traverse. The steering-pillar may also be connected with the land-wheel 29. A second landwheel may be provided. A similarly-arranged tractor may be provided with four road wheels, two at each side, which can all be arranged for driving and steering, or two can be arranged for driving and all four for steering, axle-arms on the wheels for steering only being connected by links to similar arms on the driving and steering wheels.
