Abstract

1435525 Winding webs F PERINI 17 July 1973 [18 July 1972 9 March 1973] 34058/73 Heading B8R A web winding device comprises a first cylinder 1, Fig. 1, driven at a constant speed, a second cylinder 25, Fig. 5, driven at said constant speed during winding of the web onto a core B and at a reduced speed during core changing and a presser roller 39 contacting the wound web roll and driven at the constant speed during winding and at a faster speed during core changing to eject the wound web roll on to web roll delivering conveyer 13 whose tapes 11 are disposed within annular grooves 1A of the cylinder 1. In operation a core B is delivered down a shoot 43 by timed and alternate displacement of fingers 47, 49, Fig. 6, the core being inserted between cylinders 25, 1 by a reciprocable carriage 53, Fig. 1, and the leading edge of the web M2, which is burst due to blast action from nozzles 70 and transverse perforations in the web, is attached to the replacement core, which is then contacted by the cylinders 1, 25 and roller 39 until the web roll is fully wound. The roller 39 is mounted on pivotable arms 33 to allow the roller to move with increasing web roll diameter. The tapes 11 move at a lower speed than that of the cylinder 1 and the attachment of the leading edge of the web to the core may be assisted by jet nozzle assemblies (103, 105, Fig. 11).
