Abstract

1435487 Cleaning tanks BOC INTERNATIONAL Ltd 18 July 1973 [31 July 1972] 35617/72 Heading A4F [Also in Division F2] Inflammable or explosive residues, e.g. hydrocarbons or organic solvents, are purged from a pipe-line, tank or other vessel by a steam/gas mixture, the gas being chemically unreactive towards the inflammable residues, e.g. nitrogen, the steam content being 5-50% by volume of the mixture and the temperature within the pipe-line &c. being maintained at at least 50‹C during passage of the mixture, such passage being preceded by passage of the gas alone. The steam is preferably dry. The mix is introduced at above atmospheric pressure. The steam exhausting from the pipe-line &c. may be analyzed to check the progress of the purging.
