Abstract

1356945 Purging vapours from tanks JOHN KERR & CO (MANCHESTER) Ltd 21 May 1971 [22 May 1970] 24800/70 Heading A5A Gas, particularly explosive or inflammable gas, is scavenged from an enclosure by a method which comprises filling the enclosure with a decayable foam gasified only with gas which is not capable of supporting combustion. The enclosure may be an oil tank on board ship, the foam being fed continuously thereto through a single inlet, with a single outlet open, until the tank is full, whereupon the feed is continued for a short time before both inlet and outlet are closed and the foam allowed to decay. The foam may be gasified with nitrogen.
