Abstract
1435424 Earthing connector MEDICAL PLASTICS Inc 21 May 1974 22680/74 Heading H2E To provide a current return path to earth from the body of a patient under electrical medical treatment, plate 10 comprising soft insulation covered with conductor 11 on one or both sides is earthed via connector 17 comprising integral insulated 26, 27 resilient jaws 18, 19, urged apart by spring 41, and lockable to the plate 10 by twin cams 34 on the flanks of lever 36. Threaded sleeve 32 screwed on fixed bolt 29, carrying lever 36 pivoted on a cross pin 38, provides adjustment so that raising lever end 37 (as in Fig. 3, not shown), takes cams just over dead centre to clamp securely to plate 10. Alternative embodiments replace the metal jaws by a metal-lined elastomeric block (Figs. 4-11, not shown). The cam arm may be replaced by a rotary arm turning a clamping nut (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). The cam arm may also force a point through the panel into a base in the lower jaw to secure the panel in place (Fig. 10, not shown). A spring tab may then replace the cam arm (Figs. 8, 9, not shown), the jaws being biased to grip the plate, releasable by lifting the tab which simultaneously removes the pin from the panel.
