Abstract
1435188 Thermionic valves PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 20 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 59063/73 Heading H1D A discharge tube includes a composite anode comprising a pair of inner anodes 6 and an outer anode 7, parts of the inner and outer anodes abutting and having a total emissivity of more than 60% at 500 C. These parts of the inner anodes have surfaces of sintered or carbonized Ni or Ni plated Fe. These parts of the outer anode comprise A1 coated Fe. The high emissivity increases heat transfer between abutting parts and reduces temperature gradients and the associated distortion. Parts 6 are spot welded together to form an inner anode. This is dipped in a suspension of NiO in nitrocellulose and fixed to at 750 C. in N 2 and H 2 to convert the NiO to a Ni coating. The inner and outer anodes are secured together by lugs 10. The composite anode is used in a beam tetrode and enclosed a central cathode surrounded by control and screen grids and beam electrodes.
