Abstract

1435061 Dilution of gaseous sample for analysis MELOY LABORATORIES Inc 1 May 1974 19097/74 Heading G1B Apparatus for continuous dilution of fluid, samples, as for example in the dilution of flue gas samples for SO 2 determination, comprises a housing 12, 14 having a fluid-permeable wall 60 separating fluid spaces 48, 50 at opposite sides of the wall, passages 28 or 30 connected to one of the spaces for the supply and exhaust of fluid, the passage having a thickness cross-dimension perpendicular to the flow direction therein that is very small relative to the remaining cross-dimensions of the passage so that fluid flows therethrough as a thin sheet, and means which may comprise a heating coil 77 for regulating the temperature of the fluid in the supply passage. In the embodiment shown, source gas enters at 40, flows through the annular passage 28 between cup-shaped core member 26 and its housing 12, and is pumped away via 54. Carrier gas enters at 42, flows through the corresponding annular passage 30 and is pumped away via 56. An analyzer device may be connected between port 56 and the pump to determine the concentration of diffused gas in the carrier stream Fig. 6, (not shown). The membrane which may be of polytetrafluoroethylene may be supported on both sides by polytetrafluoroethylene-coated stainless steel mesh screens Figs. 4 and 5, (not shown).
