Abstract

1434682 Electronic watches DAINI SEIKOSHA K K 22 Feb 1974 [7 March 1973] 8235/74 Heading G3T [Also in Division H2] A circuit for driving a timepiece stepping motor M by pulses which are derived from a clockpulse generator CP comprises means for detecting the end of each rotary step of the motor and feeding a corresponding signal E back into the circuit to terminate the respective pulse applied to the motor and thus conserve battery energy, and means for placing a low impedance across the motor terminals between steps to provide a holding torque. As shown the coil of motor M is in a bridge circuit using complementary F.E.T.s and connected across supply V DD -V SS in series with a resistor R. The gates of the F.E.T.s are connected to respective outputs Q 1 , Q 2 of flip-flops F 1 , F 2 which receive antiphase timing pulses A, B e.g. of 1 Hz from the last divider stage of the generator CP. The current drawn by the motor through resistor R produces a voltage impulse C which is amplified and differentiated to give signal D. This is inverted giving a signal E at each instant (P1) Fig. 2, (not shown) when the motor completes a step, this signal being applied to reset terminals Rt of F 1 and F 2 which therefore produce abbreviated pulse outputs F, G and the motor receives an alternating pulsed voltage H. When the rotor of the motor is stationary, the coil M is short-circuited through the F.E.T.s.
