Abstract
1434609 Exhaust gas treatment WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 19 June 1973 [19 June 1972 18 Dec 1972] 28967/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] I.C. engine exhaust gases are treated for oxidation of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons and reduction of nitrogen oxides by passage through an apparatus comprising a reducing zone and an oxidizing zone, one or both of the zones containing a catalyst composition of formula RE 1-x M x M<SP>1</SP>O 3 wherein: RE is one or more of La, Pr and Nd; M is one or more of Pb, Ca, Sr and Ba; M<SP>1</SP> is one or more of Mn and Cr; x is from 0À05 to 0À7; and the amount of any cation may be decreased by up to 15 atom per cent. An oxygen-containing gas may be introduced into the gas stream after the reducing zone but before the oxidizing zone. The catalyst may be supported, e.g. on alumina or codierite.
