Abstract

1434482 Telecommunications cable KABELTJNDMETTALLWERKE GUTEHOFFNUNGSHUTTE AG 25 Jan 1974 [23 March 1973] 03604/74 Heading H1A A telecommunication cable 1 as shown in Fig. 1, suitable for use in transmitting PCM (pulse-code modulation) signals comprises a number of stranded elements 3, grouped together to form bundles 2, each bundle having a metallic conducting screen 4, which comprises a tube formed by bending a strip about a longitudinal axis, the edge portions of the tube overlapping and the overlaps of the screens being disposed in the middle of the cable. The screen 4 may be formed by a plain overlap or by welding together the faces 11 (Fig. 2) of the adjacent edge portions and turning down the welded edge portions to give an overlap 12, lying on the neighbouring position of the metal strip. A synthetic resin material 14 such as cellular or non-cellular polyethylene may be used to fill the gaps between the stranded elements of the screen.
