Abstract
1434474 Controlling speed of electric drills METABOWERKE KG OLOSS RAUCH & SCHNIZLER 30 April 1974 [12 May 1973] 18865/74 Heading H2J A universal motor 6 for use in electric drilling apparatus is controllable both in a constant speed mode and a constant power mode. When the motor is being used for normal drilling operations a switch 3<SP>1</SP> is coupled to the elongate contacts 9, 10 and switch 30 is closed to ehortcircuit thyristor 24. Power control is effected by movement of the contact 3<SP>1</SP> over the fixed contacts 9, 10 which movement alters the setting of potentiometer 14 to alter the firing angle of thyristor 15 to supply power independent of loading to the motor 6 in the range from zero to full half-cycle conduction. When the drill is to be used for driving attachments and constantspeed operation is required, contact 3<SP>1</SP> is moved to contacts 9 and 11 thereby shorting out thyristor 15 and switch 30 is opened. Potentiometer 22 is set to provide a required-motor speed and this voltage is compared with the back e.m.f. of the motor to fire thyristor 24 at points in the appropriate half-cycles to provide constant speed operation.
