Abstract
1434416 Rolling annular workpieces SOC NOUVELLE DE ROULEMENTS 19 July 1973 [9 Aug 1972] 34550/73 Heading B3M A machine for cold rolling annular bearing races includes a roller 2, Fig. 1, which acts on the inside of a race 42 and is mounted on a shaft 1 supported within two eccentric sleeves 4 and 6, the sleeves being rotated by separate gear trains 8 and 9 of an epicyclic assembly 10. The sleeves are geared to rotate at the same speed within a fixed housing 7 and to make the roller 2 follow a desired rolling path within the race. The relative angular positions of the sleeves can be varied during rolling to index the roller radially outwards. This control of angular position is effected by a normally fixed sun gear 15 located within a driven planet carrier 12. The gear 15 is angularly adjustable by a pinion 21 meshing with a movable rack 19. The rack is carried on a cylinder 20 which is hydraulically moved relative to a fixed piston 22. During rolling, a race is supported externally by a two part die, one part 25 (Fig. 5), of which is attached to the housing 7. The other part 26 Fig. 7 is carried on a movable piston assembly 33, 82 and houses a central pusher 43. From the position shown, the pusher 43 is retracted to allow a race 42 to fall down a shoot 41. The piston assembly thus moves the die part 26 into contact with the die part 25 ready for rolling. The parts are locked together by pins 36 on the housing 7 which co-operate with slots in a flange 35, the flange being rotated by a rack 38 to provide a bayonet connection. A passage 44a in the pusher rod serves to provide coolant and lubricant to the working area. The whole assembly on die part 26 and piston assembly 32, 33 may be pivoted upwardly about a pin 29 for maintenance purposes. The machine normally assumes a position inclined by 45 degrees from that shown, which helps the flow of lubricant in the housing 7 for the sleeves. The sequence of operation of the initial hydraulic driving motor 3 for the roller and for the various feeding movements is controlled by an electro-hydraulic circuit (Fig. 3, not shown).
