Abstract

1434294 Cross-linking polymeric insulators WESTERN ELECTRIC CO Inc 26 Sept 1973 [26 Sept 1972] 45097/73 Heading C3P A conductor insulation comprises a polymeric material comprising at least 74% of polyvinyl chloride and preferably including a chlorinated polyethylene, 30-50 p.h.r. of a cross-linking olefinically unsaturated monomer at least 50% by weight of which is a dimethacrylate of a C 3 -C 40 glycol or a polyethylene glycol (n= 1À5 to 20) a lubricant and a liquid organometallic stabilizer; the composition is applied to a conductor by extrusion and cross-linked by electron irradiation. The lubricant is preferably a paraffin wax, the stabilizer a barium and/or cadmium soap preferably with a phosphite chelator. Optional additives are dibasic lead stearate, dibasic lead phthalate antimony oxide and colourant.
