Abstract

1434133 Automatic control of speed TSUBAKIMOTO CHAIN CO 19 June 1973 [20 June 1972 14 March 1973] 29116/73 Heading G3R The relative speed between a moving article 1 and a movable member 2 is controlled by a rotatable member 4, on the movable member 2, that is biased against the article 1 and provides an electrical control signal dependent upon the relative position of the member 2 and the article. In the embodiment see also Figs. 2 to 10 (not shown) member 2 is a carrier and article 1 is part of a moving conveyer. Arm 11 on the carrier 2 drives a potentiometer, whose output is amplified to control a hydraulic cylinder or electric motor driving the carrier. The carrier speed is thus varied to maintain the relative speed, and thus position, between the carrier and the conveyer at a desired value or between pre-set limits. The arm 11 is spring-biased against the conveyer 1, or against a stop when not in use. Provided the arm is within a given range of positions, as detected using reed switches and an electromagnet or using a light source and phototransistors, the apparatus of the carrier 2 such as transferring, processing or inspection equipment may be used.
