Abstract

1433858 Electrolytically oxidizing cyanide STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 9 May 1974 20440/74 Heading C7B Cyanide waste in an aqueous wash liquid is oxidized with electrolytically generated OCl<SP>-</SP> by passing the liquid, containing Cl<SP>-</SP>, through one or more electrolysis regions in each of which an OClconcentration of 750-850 ppm is maintained, e.g. by means of a redox electrode. The Cl<SP>-</SP> may be added as the Na, K, NH 4 or Ca salt and the pH may be monitored and controlled to pH 10-11 using the redox electrodes. The liquid may be continuously recirculated via washing regions (e.g. forming part of a plating process), the electrolysis regions and a buffer tank, with liquid and/or Cl<SP>-</SP> additions as required.
