Abstract
1433745 Diamond tools SAMUEL PEACE & SONS Ltd 20 Aug 1973 [25 Aug 1972] 39833/72 Heading B5K [Also in Division B3] A diamond milling cutter comprises a plurality of discs 10, Fig. 1, each of which has flat end faces 18 and a plurality of diamond cutting elements presented at its periphery, and means whereby said discs are secured side by side on a driving shaft 12 in such a way that the abutting flat end faces of the discs are all inclined to a plane normal to the axis of the shaft. The discs may be of uniform thickness and relatively narrow and may be constituted by sections of a cylindrical hollow shaft cut in parallel planes normal to the axis of the shaft. The discs, which have a plurality of diamond cutting elements embedded in a matrix 16 are secured in inclined positions on the driving shaft 12 between tapered washers 14. In another embodiment, the discs are relatively wide and are constituted by sections of a cylindrical hollow shaft cut in parallel planes inclined to a plane normal to the shaft. In further embodiments, the discs 24, Fig. 3, are wedge shaped and constituted by sections of a hollow shaft cut in planes 26 material to a plane normal to the axis of the shaft, each successive cut being made after the shaft has been rotated 90 degrees or 180 degrees.
