The tool 70 has a planar surface 76 and an elliptical forming edge 78. In operation, the tool 70 engages the interior surface 22a of the wall of the tube 22, and as the edge 78 of the tool proceeds, a strip of metal is ploughed away from the main body and transposed into the upright position, Fig. 10, thereby producing grooves having a cross-section with an opening narrower than the width of the lower part of the groove. The tool and associated apparatus form the subjects of Specifications 1,433,543 and 1,433,544.
