Abstract
1433542 Flaw produced by rotary rubbing; making thermal transfer tubes Q-DOT CORP 24 July 1973 10063/75 Divided out of 1433541 Headings B3V and B3A Capillary grooves extending substantially circumferentially around the inner surface of the thermal transfer tube described and claimed in the parent Specification 1,433,541 are produced by a forming tool 70 mounted in a tool holder 64 on an output shaft 58 of a gear-box connected to the chuck of a conventional lathe, Fig. 6 (not shown). The tool 70 has a planar surface 76 and an elliptical forming edge 78. In operation, the tool 70 engages the interior surface 22a of the wall of the tube 22, and as the edge 78 of the tool proceeds, a strip of metal is ploughed away from the main body and transposed into the upright position, Fig. 10, thereby producing grooves having a cross-section with an opening narrower than the width of the lower part of the groove. The tool and associated apparatus form the subjects of Specifications 1,433,543 and 1,433,544.
