Abstract
1433541 Heat transfer devices Q-DOT CORP 24 July 1973 35138/73 Headings F4U and F4S A heat transfer device for use in a ventilating system for transferring heat between fresh air and exhaust air is in the form of a plurality of finned Perkins tubes 20 each of which comprises a sealed tube 22 containing vaporizablecondensable workingfluid 30, e.g. refrigerant R 12, and having its interior wall provided with circumferentially extending capillary grooves 32 for transporting the working fluid in its liquid state circumferentially so as to increase the area of the liquid-vapour interface. The grooves may be formed as a continuous spiral groove or as separate annular grooves and preferably have, in cross-section, an opening of reduced width, Fig. 5 (not shown). The tube is provided with a flow divider 40 of X-shaped cross-section for preventing wave build-up in the liquid returning along the bottom of the tube. The manner and means by which the capillary grooves are formed are described and claimed in Specifications 1,433,542, 1,433,543, and 1,433,544
