Abstract

1433398 Acoustic surface-wave filters MULLARD Ltd 16 Oct 1973 48081/73 Heading H3U An acoustic surface-wave filter comprises a body 1 of piezoelectric material carrying a pair of parallel-connected interdigital input transducers 20, 21 having equal acoustic apertures and adapted to launch surface-waves inwards in a track T1, a pair of parallel-connected interdigital output transducers 30, 31 having equal acoustic apertures and adapted to receive surface-waves passing outwards in a track T2, and a surface-wave coupling means MSC comprising an array of parallel conductive strips 15 arranged to transfer the energy of the waves in the track T1 into acoustic waves in the track T2. Since spurious bulk waves are not transmitted by MSC, the filter stop-band characteristic is stated to be improved. As shown the tracks T1, T2 are parallel and adjacent, and the two pairs of transducers have equal apertures A/2. Capacitive breakthrough between transducers is prevented by earthing one input terminal 9 and output terminal 12, and/or by earthed shielding strips. Other connection arrangements are envisaged. The transducers 21 and 31 may be interchanged or all the transducers may be length weighted like the transducers 20, 21.
