Abstract

1295909 Piezo-electric filters THOMSONCSF 31 March 1970 [16 April 1969] 15258/70 Heading H3U A delay line which additionally has the property of a filter comprises a plate 3 of piezoelectric material carrying input and output transducers 1, 2. The transducers are formed by interleaved comb electrodes so that an input signal applied to the transducer 1 produces surface waves which, after a time delay, are received by the transducer 2. A band-pass filter effect is obtained by making at least one of the transducer electrodes with teeth of different length so that the envelope described by the tips of the teeth defines the Fourier transform of a desired transfer function. As shown, the tips of the teeth of electrode 1B define the function sin x/x which is the Fourier transform of a rectangular junction. The spacing between adjacent electrode teeth is made equal to one half the wavelength. In modifications (not shown), both electrodes of transducer 1 have teeth of different length and both transducers may have at least one electrode with teeth of different length.
