Abstract

1433386 Automatic control of fuel injection in IC engines SOC DES PROCEDES MODERNES D'INJECTION SOPROMI 12 April 1973 [12 April 1972] 17713/73 Heading G3N The quantity of fuel injected in an internal combustion engine is determined from the measured engine speed and the desired engine speed by deriving voltages corresponding to the respective points on the full load and steady state characteristic curves and selecting the lower of these desired voltages to give the required quantity of fuel. In the arrangement shown a transducer 1 produces pulses whose frequency represents engine speed and these are used to operate monostable circuits 2 and 5. The standardized pulses from circuit 2 pass through converter 3 which provides a voltage proportional to engine speed. This voltage is applied to a function generator 4 which produces an output voltage corresponding to the full load characteristic curve CPC Fig. 1. The monostable circuit 5 produces pulses having a duration representing the desired speed input from 9. These pulses are combined with the engine speed pulses at 6 to produce a difference signal To-Ta which is used to determine the time during which capacitor 7 is charged from generator 8. The end of the engine speed pulses produces from monostable 11 a pulse which operates circuit 12 to produce an output voltage which corresponds to the quantity of fuel according to steady state curve CS Fig. 1. The quantity signals are passed to discriminating circuit 13 which allows the lower value signal to pass to a storage circuit 14. The signals D and # are provided by timing marks on the engine and when combined provide an authorization signal from bi-stable 21 at the instant when injection is required in each cylinder and lasting for the maximum time for which injection can occur. The authorization signal causes the stored signal to be read-out of 14 to define the length of the injection pulse Tinj produced by circuit 22.
