Abstract

1432983 Substation equipment J ST CLAIR KILBY 21 June 1973 [26 June 1972] 29526/73 Addition to 1413339 Heading H4K The telephone answering machine disclosed in Specification 1,413,339 in which the owner of the machine is alerted if a caller actuates a detector 56 by transmitting a special signal following reception of an announcement message is modified in that the detector 56 includes a delay circuit (228-234) there being also a zero current sensor 15 which monitors the current in the line and provides an output to the detector so that the latter, during the "answering an incoming call" mode, can distinguish between a dialled pulse (which results in summoning of the called party) and a pulse caused by the caller hanging up. If the line current goes to zero, indicating hanging up, after the detector has received a pulse and remains at zero for the duration of its delay period, the detector is disabled and no intermittent beep tone is generated.
