1432593 Seals WILD BARFIELD Ltd 19 July 1974 [21 Aug 1973] 39438/73 Heading F2B Deep immersion of a sealing rim 2, by downward pressure, in a powder in a trough 1, is made possible by temporarily fluidizing the powder, while the rim is being depressed. Fluidizing gas may be supplied to a porous plate 5 or, alternatively, a perforated pipe (3) may be arranged in the bottom of the trough. The base of the sealing rim 2 may incorporate gas admission means. The depth of immersion of the rim 2 in a powder such as silver sand, bauxilite or chrome or may be such as to retain gases in metallurgical heat treatment furnaces.
