Abstract
1447475 Alkaline earth metal oxides EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 29 Oct 1973 [30 Oct 1972] 50014/72 Heading C1A Alkaline earth metal oxides are prepared from alkaline earth metal sulphide particles by contacting with a hot free-oxygen-containing gas, the temperature of the particles being 800- 1220‹ C. and of the gas 1020-1220‹. SO 2 may be produced. The reaction may be carried out in a fluidized bed at a mean temperature of 1040‹-1090‹C. The particles may be introduced into the bed 2-12 inches above the air inlet and the bed may be 12-60 inches deep. The gas may be introduced at least 2 inches below the level at which the sulphide-comprising particles are introduced. Suitable apparatus is described.
