Abstract
1432181 Coated wires FURUKAWA ELECTRIC CO LTD 31 July 1973 [3 Aug 1972 (3) 5 June 1973] 36326/73 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions B5, C3 and H1] Electric wires insulated with a uniformly foamed, dimensionally stable, olefine resin are made by continuous extrusion of a composition prepared by mixing an olefine resin with a foaming agent comprising azodicarbonamide and with at least 10 per cent by weight of at least one liquid or solid material having a solubility parameter (as defined) of 12.0 or more based on the amount of the azocarbonamide and extruding it on an electric wire under conditions in which the azodicarbonamide decomposes, the material having a solubility parameter of 12.0 or more being selected from polyhydric alcohols having less than eight carbon atoms, ethanol amines having less than six carbon atoms, monohydric alcohols having less than three carbon atoms, dimethyl sulfoxide, cellulose derivatives, lignin and its derivatives, lactone compounds, alkyl acetamides, alkylformamides, phenolic compounds, ethylene carbonate, thiourea, succinimide, and compounds containing a 1, 3, 5-triazine ring expressed by the general formula: In the examples annealed copper wires were coated with foams of polyethylene, polypropylene, or an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer which were obtained by extruding a mixture of the polymer, foaming agent and the above material onto the wires.
