Abstract

1432094 Stage control system H M BISSELL 14 March 1974 11474/74 Heading A6M A stage platform control system comprises a plurality of stage segments 13, 14, a plurality of drive mechanisms 16, 20, 22, 24 individually associated with corresponding segments to position the segments and control apparatus for actuating the drive mechanisms, which apparatus is capable of actuating all or any of the drive mechanisms concurrently for movement in response to a single set of control signals. Preferably a control unit is individually provided for each separate segment drive mechanism and a plurality of master control units are provided to which the individual segment control units may be selectively coupled in order to provide control of selected individual drive mechanisms in unison by a single operator at a given master control unit. Each segment control unit has circuitry for preselecting a plurality of positions to which the associated segment may be directed when the drive mechanism is actuated and provision is made for varying the speed of elevating or lowering within a given range and with predetermined levels of acceleration and deceleration. The master control units provide for control of movement through preselected incremental distances, thus permitting two or more segments having an initial juxtaposition to be moved through the same incremental distance at the same velocity. In addition the various control units can provide readouts or indications of velocity, position and incremental distance resulting from the operation of the associated drive mechanisms. Duplicate sets of controls may be provided for permitting the preprogramming of one set of controls during the time the other set of controls is in operative use, with means for alternatively selecting one or other of such controls. Alternative manual control may also be provided. Preferably the drive mechanisms consist of hydraulic motors driving screw jack type mechanisms for moving the stage segments and the control is by means of electric circuitry details of which are given in the specification. Suitable brakes and lock mechanisms and overload devices can be provided.
