Abstract
1432079 Tea concentrate G R ROBERTS U L L DESILVA and M A V DEVANATHAN 4 Oct 1974 [12 Oct 1973] 43201/74 Heading A2B A tea concentrate is prepared by removing non-phenolic high molecular wt. constituents of tea cream from a aqueous solution of soluble solids of tea either by (a) solvent extraction of a tea liquor such that the high mol. wt. non-phenolics are removed but low molecular wt. compounds remain OR (b) separating the tea cream and subjecting the cream to solvent extraction to remove the high molecular wt. non-phenolics, and returning at least a part of the remaining low molecular wt. compounds to the liquor; followed by concentrating the solution to a syrup or dry powder. Suitable solvents include benzene, dichloro-ethylene, methylene chloride, trichloroethylene and chloroform. The raffinate produced from the tea cream extraction may be converted to a dry powder and separately used as an additive to tea liquors.
