Abstract

1432068 Sheet forming SALADINAG 1 June 1973 [12 June 1972 25 April 1973] 26357/73 Heading B5A Apparatus for shaping fabrics impregnated with thermoplastic or thermosetting resins to form, e.g., motor car carpets, comprises a gridlike tool 14 which pivots to force the fabric into a cavity 16, and has a tool 24 mounted thereon, for preforming a further operation, e.g. a cutter (25), Fig. 2 (not shown), to cut a hole in the carpet to accommodate a brake pedal. The cutter is operated by a power cylinder (28) controlled at an operating station 37. An ejector (30) pushes the waste material through a duct 20 after the cutting operation. The tool 14 is formed from tubular members which can be connected to a supply of heating, cooling, or chemical treatment medium. The cavity 16 can be formed with a surface having perforations connected with a source of suction. The tool 14 can carry a gas burner, resistance wire heater, or electrode high-frequency heater, for trimming, burning out, sealing or welding individual sections of the fabric together. The grid-like tool 14 can be mounted on the stationary part of the machine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,235,319.
