Abstract

1431973 Double wall pipe GENERAL MOTORS CORP 15 Nov 1973 [24 Nov 1972] 52974/73 Heading F2P [Also in Division F1] A double wall exhaust pipe comprises an inner conduit 32 tightly enclosed by an outer conduit 30, the inner conduit having rectangular pressure relief strips 34 formed therein by pairs of parallel axially extending lanced slits 36. The slits are made by a punch 40 which deforms the material 34a radially inwardly, this material subsequently being reformed to its original position. If pressure builds up between the inner and outer conduits the portions 34 yield to relieve the pressure so preventing damage to the conduits.
