Abstract

1431695 Valves C L C KAH Jnr 17 April 1973 18422/73 Heading F2V [Also in Divisions G3 and G4] A valve for use in an irrigation sprinkler system has a main valve member 906 operated by the fluid-pressure in chamber 962 acting on a diaphragm 908 and under the control of a pilot valve 922. The pilot valve is operated by a diaphragm 926 via a lost-motion connection 930, 932 which diaphragm is connected to an indexing mechanism comprised by a spring-load bar 956 which is moved by a cam 952 on the reciprocatable rod 928 and engages ratchet teeth 976 on element 960. The latter is spring- loaded to a reset position, co-operates with a spring-loaded pawl and is indexed once for each reciprocable movement of the rod 928. A pin(s) (988) in one or more of a plurality of holes in the element engage a spring-loaded pivoted member 986 in one or more positions of the element 960 to move it out of alignment with the bore in which the rod 928 reciprocates. Three springs 940, 942, 944 sequentially abut the transverse bar 954 on the rod 928 as it moves upwards. The arrangement is such that during normal line pressure the rod is in a position in which spring 940 only is compressed. Rise in line pressure to a first predetermined pressure moves the rod to a position in which spring 942 is compressed and the element 960 is indexed. Rise in line pressure to a second higher predetermined pressure moves the rod to compress spring 944 if the member 986 has been moved out of alignment with the rod, the pilot valve being opened only in this position of the rod. If the line pressure is reduced below normal the bar 956 is moved out of engagement with the element 960 and moves the pawl also out of engagement; the element 960 can thus return under its spring-loading to an initial reset position. A plurality of such valves are incorporated in the system, valves sequentially opening at different index positions.
