Abstract

1394120 Valves BRITISH OXYGEN CO Ltd 8 May 1972 [10 May 1971] 21346/72 Heading F2V A relief valve has a primary piston 21 with a nose 22 received within 0-ring 16 and subjected to inlet pressure acting in opposition to a spring 29 adjusted by nut 28 which also acts as a guide for a stem 26 carrying both the primary piston 21 and a secondary piston 24, the pistons suitably being of P.F.T.E. Increasing inlet pressure shifts the pistons until chamfer 23 on nose 22 moves into the 0-ring to allow flow past the pistons via annulus 20, 25 to vents 19. When the pistons have moved far enough for most of the total pressure drop to occur across piston 24, they are shifted rapidly to afully-open condition. Cap nut 31 locks nut 28 to the housing 10.
