Abstract

1431568 Bulking, twisting and testing yarns; finishing woven fabrics MITSUBISHI RAYON CO Ltd 2 May 1973 20794/73 Headings D1F D1K D1S and D1W A synthetic e.g. polyamide or polyester, multifilament textured yarn, which has sufficient potential torque for producing a fine crepe fabric therefrom, comprises a number of bulky portions between adjacent compact portions. The latter are randomly developed along the length of the yarn and consist of a number of twisted individual filaments compactly combined and the former each consist of a number of crimped individual filaments independent from each other and having an opposite twisting direction of the multifilament yarn from the twist direction of the adjacent two compact portions. The yarn is formed by false-twisting a synthetic multifilament yarn in an overfeeding condition at a temperature within a range between the softening and melting temperatures of the filaments. Additional twist e.g. 500 turns/metre in the same direction as the false-twisting may be applied to modify the torque characteristics of the yarn. As described, polyester yarn of 75 denier 24 filaments is overfed 2% to falsetwisting at 3390-4200 turns/metre at a temperature of 240 or 245‹C and overfed 4% to wind-up: polyamide yarn of 120 denier 30 filaments is overfed 1% to similar false-twisting at a temperature of 210‹C and wound at 5% overfeed. In apparatus, Fig. 9 (not shown) for assessing the yarn, the torque of a vertically suspended specimen length thereof is allowed to deflect a thin vertical resilient rod the indicated or recorded "free length" or "breaking length" of which is used, in a manner described, to calculate the yarn torque. Plain weave fabric with yarns of the invention in warp and weft partly with double picking (and using both S and Z false-twisted and modified textured yarn) are wet treated with mechanical vibration under relaxed conditions to release the potential torque of the yarns and therefore develop fine crisp crepes (and consequent shrinkage of the fabric). Then the fabric is subjected to tentering and heating so that the crepes set, dyeing and finishing.
