Abstract

1431452 Edge connectors PYE Ltd 2 July 1973 31386/73 Heading H2E A socket edge-connector comprises a body 25 with one or more cavities 28 each holding a respective strip metal spring contact 1, the contact having a first portion engageable by the edge of a circuit board upon insertion and a second portion which extends between two points which bear against the wall of the cavity, the second portion being spaced from the wall so as to be free to flex resiliently and joined to the first portion by a third portion which is stiffer than the second portion. The contacts, of gold plated phosphor bronze, are folded to form a post 2 around which a wire may be wrapped, curved strip first portions 6, 8 and 7, 9 adjacent each end 4, 5, oppositely bowed second portions 12, 13 and third portions formed as bends 10, 11, which with bends 14, 15 define the said points which bear against the walls 36 and the said resilient second portions 12, 13 which are bowed away from the walls 36. The moulded body 25 has mounting flanges (27) and shoulders 34 and walls 35 which coact with a protrusion 18 and finger 19 to locate the contacts. The third portions are stiffer as a result of work-hardening which occurs during their bending.
