1431251 2,7-Dimethyl-5,7-octadien-2-ol; unsaturated sulpholenes TAKASAGO PERFUMERY CO Ltd 18 Jan 1974 [25 Jan 1973] 02568/74 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] The invention comprises 2,7-dimethyl-5,7- octadien-2-ol and its preparation by reacting 2,7-dimethyl-1,5,7-octatriene with SO 2 , reacting the resulting sulphone (III) with H 2 SO 4 to form a sulphonic acid IV saponifying the latter with an alkali hydroxide and decomposing the resulting alcohol (V) by heat.
