Abstract

1431158 Optical fibre bundle mould HOYA GLASS WORKS Ltd 21 June 1974 [3 Sept 1973] 27551/74 Heading C1M A mould for heat bonding a bundle of optical fibres to form an optical fibre plate comprises a pair of opposed mould walls 10, 10<SP>1</SP> and second pair of opposed mould walls 8, 9, the first pair of walls being slidable inwardly along inclined surfaces 8a, 8b, 9a, 9b of the second pair of walls on application of pressure in the direction 12. The walls are formed of iron, nickel or a ferrous alloy. In use the fibres are coated with a lubricant such as boron nitride, aluminium oxide, magnesium oxide or kaolinite.
