Abstract

PURPOSE:To prepare a formed body in the form of a biaxially oriented plate inexpensively by a method wherein two or more plate blanks are laminated, those outsid surfaces or the surfaces of a compression die are coated with lubricant and the laminated blanks are not only compressed in a unitary body but oriented biaxially. CONSTITUTION:Plate blanks 8, 9, 10, 11 of thermoplastic resin (such as polymethylmetacrylate, polystyrene, etc.) are preheated approximately between the glass transition point and the melting point and laminated. The outside surfaces 13, 14 of these laminated blanks 12 are coated with lubricant (such as fluorosilicone oil etc.) or the surfaces of the compression die is coated with lubricant. The blank 12 is placed in the heated compression die and, at the same time that it is compressed in a unitary body, it is oriented biaxially to obtain a formed body 15. The formed body which is oriented biaxially uniformly all over the surfaces can be obtained by coating both external surfaces of the blank or both surfaces of the die with lubricant, or the formed part which is oriented biaxially only on one side can be obtained by coating the blank or one surface only of the die with lubricant.
