Abstract

1431144 Clamps KONE OSAKEYNTIO 9 May 1974 [7 March 1974] 20482/74 Heading E2B A clamping assembly for clamping a vehicle to a rail I comprises a support member 3 having pivotally mounted thereon two clamping pieces 2 provided with respective friction surfaces 4 for contacting respective sides of the rail. At least one of the clamping pieces is such that the distance between a point on its surface 4 and its pivot axis is a minimum with respect to the corresponding distances for points on both sides of the first mentioned point whereby, with the clamping pieces in contact with the rail, relative longitudinal movement between the rail and clamping assembly results in progressively increasing contact forces being generated between the clamping pieces and rail due to pivoting of the clamping pieces. As shown, the pivots 5 of the clamping pieces 2 are arranged in ball joints 7 to provide rotation about a second axis when links 9 are lifted against the action of a spring 10 so that the clamping pieces are movable into and out of contact with the rail 1 in a direction substantially perpendicular thereto. The friction surface 4 may comprise elastic material attached to the surface or a spring-biassed frictional element 6, and the shape thereof may be circular, elliptical, hyperbolic, parabolic or any mathematically regular or irregular configuration.
