Abstract

1431117 Winding and paying out apparatus G L A AYME 4 Dec 1973 [7 Dec 1972] 56109/73 Heading B8B Apparatus for winding a chain 5 into a storage pit 6 comprises a main chain pulley 2 alongside the pit, and an auxiliary chain pulley 8 above the pit, the auxiliary pulley being driven by a constant torque windlass 5 so as to apply a constant tension to the chain-portion between the pulleys 2, 8 regardless of the direction of rotation of the pulley 2. A plurality of storage pits may be associated with the main pulley, each pit having its own auxiliary pulley or a single axuiliary pulley being movable over the pits. The pulleys may have horizontal or vertical rotational axes.
