Abstract

1430923 Cutting silage H VON DER HEIDE 13 Feb 1974 [16 Feb 1973] 6628/74 Heading A4C Silage blocks are cut from a silo by a vertically reciprocable knife 20, Fig. 3, carried by a mechanism 16 operable by a hydraulic motor M, linkable to the hydraulics of a tractor, to move, in either direction, along a U-shaped gantry 15 cantilevered perpendicularly to an, in use, vertical frame 1, Fig. 1, having tines 11 projecting from a horizontal tube 3 below said gantry, said tube being rotatably mounted on struts 4, 5, 6, (7), Fig.2 (not shown) of said frame and being lockable to retain the lines horizontal by a pair of levers 12 engaging a pawl 13. A switch 17 is mounted at each end of the gantry to stop and reverse mechanism 16 for travel in the opposite direction. Teeth 19 are disposed on the gantry in the line of motion of mechanism 16, a pivotable and reversible double pawl of said mechanism engaging said teeth. Slidable bars 8, 9, 10 which can be mounted on the rear or on outriggers of a tractor, are attached respectively to a horizontal bar 2 at the top of the frame, and to struts 5 and 6.
