Abstract

1430808 Artificial grass; matting WESLEY SEU CHENG CHIN 18 May 1973 23887/73 Headings A4S and A4X [Also in Divisions A5 and A6] Artificial grass matting comprises a flat backing member having holes for receiving studs securing tufts each of which includes a core from which radiate strands, the backing member and the tufts being made of plastics material. The backing member may be in the form of a lattice 10 having edge members 12 inter-connected by members 14. The studs may have heads from which extend shanks which pass through holes in the cores and aligned holes in the lattice 10 and have their protruding ends deformed to retain the studs in the holes. The lattice has pins 42 and complementary apertured tabs 44 whereby a plurality of the lattices can be inter-connected, the protruding ends of the pins being thereafter deformed. In a second embodiment, Fig. 9 (not shown), the studs are integral with the cores and they have downwardly tapered heads which can be snap-engaged in the holes in the lattice. The stud heads may thereafter be deformed. In a third embodiment, Figs. 11 to 14 (not shown), the backing member is a sheet of plastics material and the holes are counterbored to receive the tuft cores which have integral headed studs snap-engaged in the holes. Holes may be provided in the sheet and in the cores to support golf tees. The matting may be used as display bedding for flowers, meat, fruits and vegetables.
