Abstract

1430795 Apparatus for processing peat JOHN FINLAY (ENG) Ltd 15 March 1973 12521/73 Heading C5G [Also in Division B5] An apparatus for processing peat comprises a first chamber 17 formed as a cylinder and incorporating a piston 19, a second chamber 22 provided with extrusion nozzle 30, the chambers being adapted respectively to receive water filled peat in discrete form and to form an extruded compacted ribbon of peat which then can be cut into blocks, a conduit 20 linking the two chambers through which the peat from the first chamber is forced into the second chamber and a suction pump 27 with a plurality of exhaust ducts 22 located around the periphery of the second chamber 22 through which water is removed and caught in water trap tank 24, a screen being provided in each duct 22 to prevent suction therethrough of solid matter. The peat is fed to chamber 17 from a hopper 10 with auger feed 14, screen 16 and shoot 12. The piston 19 cuts off the flow of peat from 12 when fully extended. A cutter 31 cuts the ribbon of peat into blocks.
