Abstract
1430414 Exhaust gas treatment NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 11 April 1973 [15 April 1972] 17391/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] Carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in exhaust gases from I.C. engines are oxidized in contact with a catalyst comprising a major proportion of a monolithic carrier formed from cordierite, beta-spodumene or alpha-alumina, 0À05 to 2À0% wt. of a catalytic component consisting of at least one metal in free form selected from Pt, Pd and Rh, and a promoter component consisting of at least one metal in free form selected from Ru, Rh, Pd, Os and Ir, the promoter component excluding the metal or metals selected for the catalytic component and being present in an amount less than 20% wt. based on the weight of the catalytic component. Suitably, the promoter is present in an amount of 0À002-0À5% wt. of the catalyst. The examples describe the treatment of a test gas containing carbon monoxide, propane, nitrogen monoxide, carbon dioxide, oxygen, water vapour and nitrogen at 100-600‹ C. using cordieritesupported catalysts containing Pt and Ru; Pt and Rh; Pd and Ru; Pt and Pd; Pb and Zr; Pb and Os; Rh and Pt; and Pd, Rh and Ru.
