Abstract

1430397 Saw-tooth wave generators INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 14 Dec 1973 [21 Dec 1972] 58010/73 Heading H3T A saw-tooth wave generator comprises a constant current source, shown as a current mirror T1, T2, connected to charge a capacitor C via a transistor T 3 of one conductivity type, a second transistor T4 connected in commonemitter configuration with T3, a third transistor T5 of the other conductivity type connected across the capacitor and a fourth transistor T6, also of the other conductivity type, connected across a portion of a potential divider R3, R4, R5 across the supply, the collector of T4 being connected to the bases of T5 and T6. In operation the capacitor-C is charged from the current source until it raises the base voltage of T3 above that of T4 whereupon the current is diverted to T4. This renders T5 conducting to discharge the capacitor and causes T6 to lower the bias voltage at the base of T4. The capacitor discharge is arrested at this value and the circuit reverts to start a new charging cycle. The generator, which is suitable for a television line time-base, may be made in integral form, transistors T1, T2 and T3 being of lateral type.
