Abstract

1430323 Reverse osmosis membranes CHEMICAL SYSTEMS Inc 20 March 1974 12261/74 Heading B5B A reverse osmosis membrane is prepared by casting a solution of a cellulose ester, additionally containing at least one volatile pore-forming material, and allowing both the solvent and the pre-forming material to evaporate completely. The pore-forming materials are non-solvents for the cellulose derivative and have boiling points at least 30‹ C. higher than the solvent. The solution must contain no more than 15% by weight of the cellulosic material. In examples the membrane is formed by cellulose acetate, the solvent methylene chloride and the pore-forming materials ethanol and t-butanol.
