Abstract

1429875 Optical communications system E SICK [trading as ERWIN SICK OPTIKELEKTRONIK] 21 June 1973 [22 June 1972] 29488/73 Heading G1A A device 11 for the transmission and receipt of information by light comprises a housing, a light receiver 21, a light emitter 19 and a single light focusing system e.g. lens 13 behind which is mounted a beam-splitter comprising a dichroic mirror 15, light in use received by the light focusing system passing to the beam-splitter and thence to the receiver and light, in use, from the light emitter passing to the beam-splitter and thence to the light focusing system from where it is transmitted. A duplex information transmission apparatus comprises two such devices 11, 12 between which two coaxial light beams travel in opposite directions and which are modulated with the information to be conveyed. Filters 23, 24, 25 and/or 26 may be included between the emitter or receiver and the beam-splitter.
