Abstract

1429738 Expandable mandrels; ratchet clutches; friction clutches DR OTTO C STRECKER KG and BRUDERHAUS MASCHINEN GmbH 22 Feb 1974 [22 Feb 1973] 8216/74 Headings F2U and F2C A bobbin chuck comprises chuck jaws 5 which are expanded by the outer ends of thrust arms 4 as the arms pivot about points S close to the axis of a central member 1, each jaw being actuated by a pair of thrust arms coupled to each other by an annular cage 3, the recesses for the arms of a first chuck jaw being axially offset relative to those of a second chuck jaw. The arms may be provided with ball pivots inserted into their inner ends. Fig. 3 shows the form of thrust arm suitable for both directions of rotation two ball pivots being necessary one for each direction. The jaws may be held together by garter springs or individual springs between the jaws. The cage may be locked by a ratchet pawl (9), Fig. 2 (not shown), and released manually by depressing a pin (10).
