Abstract

1429643 Colour formers WIGGINS TEAPE Ltd 27 July 1973 [2 May 1972] 20271/72 Heading C4P [Also in Division D2] A water-soluble colourless colour-former has the general formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> each independently represents H or an opt. sub. hydrocarbon radical or forms part of a heterocyclic ring containing the attached N atom, T represents an opt. subs. heterocyclic residue, and ring A may opt. be further substd., said compound containing at least one water-solubilizing group. The compounds may be prepared by reacting a compound with a compound R<SP>10</SP>O-T<SP>1</SP>, wherein R<SP>10</SP> represents H or lower alkyl and T<SP>1</SP> represents an opt. substd. heterocyclic radical, at least one water-solubilizing group being present in the final product, and the reaction being performed in the presence of a suitable condensing agent, preferably sulphuric acid. Images ranging from yellow to black may be obtained in copying systems in which a transfer sheet material can give over 50 legible copies of good stability from a master paper, using the heterographic or spirit-reproducing copying process.
