Abstract

1429269 Metals separation by liquid extraction OUTOKUMPU OY 1 June 1973 [2 June 1972] 26318/73 Heading C1A [Also in Division G3] Zinc, cadmium or copper values are separated from cobalt, nickel, or ammonium values by forming a dispersion of an aqueous solution containing the metal values and at least one ion exchange extraction agent, which yields hydrogen ions, measuring the pH of the dispersion, and adding a neutralizing agent until the pH reaches a desired value. pH measurement is carried out using conventional pH electrodes and utilizing these measurements to automatically control the addition of neutralizing agent. The extraction may be multistage with independent pH control for each stage and the preferred exchange agent is a di-(2-ethyl-hexyl)ester of phosphoric acid.
